How to Clean Your Bathroom Mirror

Bathroom mirrors are an essential accessory in the home. Used as both an everyday necessity and as a stylish bathroom accessory, bathroom mirrors are more important than you may think!

Since they get used on the regular, there’s little wonder that they can get grubby and messy pretty quickly! We’re talking greasy fingerprints, smudges and splodges of makeup.

Nothing is more frustrating than when you’re trying to get ready in the morning and your bathroom mirror is covered in smudges, making it almost impossible to see what you’re doing. As leaders in the home accessory industry and providers of high-quality bathroom mirrors, we can help homeowners keep their mirrors in tip-top condition.

Say goodbye to your streaky-self staring back at you in your dirty bathroom mirror! Follow Mood Living’s top tips for taking care of your bathroom mirror and enjoy your bathroom space once more.

Use the Right Cloth

Did you know that different types of cloth can actually do more damage than good for your bathroom mirror? Depending on the type of material, certain cloths can scratch your bathroom mirror. This is because debris from the mirror can cling to the cloth, spreading around and making matters worse.

We recommend you use a flat-weave cloth to clean your bathroom mirrors. This type of cloth will not drag any debris around as you clean and will promote a lint-free finish whilst promoting fast-drying to prevent streaks.

Effective DIY Glass Cleaner Mix

When it comes to finding the right glass cleaner for your bathroom mirrors, you can end up spending so much money on products promising to make your mirrors gleam and shine. These are sometimes promises that don’t deliver and there are actually some useful products in your kitchen cupboards that can be used as effective bathroom mirror cleaners.

We recommend this natural glass cleaner mix. It’ll not only make your mirror clean, but it’ll make it look almost brand new as it cuts through the grime! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 cups of water (distilled or filtered is best so it doesn’t leave residue)
  • 2 tablespoons of white vinegar
  • 10 drops essential oil of choice - we think lemon is perfect for a fresh, clean scent

Pop this cheap yet effective mix into a spray bottle and spray into the mirror. With your flat-weave cloth as mentioned above, you can wipe away any tough grease marks caused by toiletry or makeup products and make your bathroom mirrors sparkle once more.

Don’t Spray Your Mix Directly onto the Mirror

Often, people will spray their mirror cleaning mix directly on the bathroom mirror and then start wiping. However, this is not the best way! If you spray directly onto the mirror, it can cause the excess mix to seep behind the silver coating and create black, tarnish marks.

Instead, spray the mix onto your cloth. The cloth will soak up any excess cleaning product and leave you with the perfect amount to start using on your bathroom mirrors. If you’ve got mirrored bathroom cabinets, the same rules apply!

Your Cleaning Motion is Important

We’ve all heard of the “wax on wax off” method but this won’t do your bathroom mirrors any favours! This is because the circular motion re-deposits the dust, dirt and grease across the mirror leaving you with dirty streaks.

To get a good clean, you need to practise the s-shape method. Wipe in a tight, s-shape pattern starting at the top of the mirror and working your way towards the bottom. This will ensure there are no streaks and that any marks are swiped away.

What about Illuminated Bathroom Mirrors?

Luckily, illuminated bathroom mirrors such as the ones from Mood Living do not require any extra care than standard bathroom mirrors. All you need to keep in mind is that you don’t leave anything too hot or too cold near the mirror as this can damage the lights.

When it comes to cleaning, you can follow the same tips and tricks as above. Be extra cautious to avoid harsh products or anything containing bleach and only use a soft cloth to clean the mirror.

Try to keep Mirrors Dry

Now, we understand this is easier said than done! After all, bathrooms are an area of high humidity and moisture. However, excess exposure to this moisture will eventually cause damage to your bathroom mirrors, whether you have illuminated or non-illuminated options.

We recommend opening a window in the bathroom after a hot shower to draw out some of the moisture in the air. You can also take a soft, dry towel to your bathroom mirrors to give them a gentle wipe-down and ensure they are not too wet.

Enjoy your Bathroom Mirrors Once More!

Sometimes, it takes just the simplest of tricks to restore your bathroom mirrors to their former glory. However, if you still aren’t satisfied with the quality of your mirror and your countless cleaning efforts aren’t making a difference, it could be time to upgrade.
